Dig up words.
Keep them.

A calm vocabulary app, and your own dictionary for the language you are learning — not a ready-made list of words somebody else decided you should know. Take them from the packs each language arrives with, save them from whatever you are reading, or add your own. Every one becomes four exercises, each asked on its own schedule, at your own pace. No streaks, no points, no badges.

Pigly on an iPad and an iPhone: a collection of phrasal verbs with their meanings on the tablet, and the day's board on the phone.
How it works

How a word becomes yours.

1

Add a word

Type it, paste a list, or send it from another app through the share sheet — it is filed without Pigly opening. The word arrives with its meaning and a sentence it lives in, from the dictionary the language ships with, and for most words how it is pronounced.

2

Climb four rungs

Recognise it when you read it, recall it from its meaning, write it down from hearing it, understand it by ear. Each rung is scheduled on its own clock, so a word you can read but not spell gets asked the way you need. The last two need a voice for that language on your device; without one, the word is learned in writing.

3

Stop when it's done

Only what is due today, and the day is a board rather than a feed that keeps going. When the list is empty, nothing is owed until tomorrow.

The word widget: the English idiom “call it a day”, and under it what it means — to stop working, deciding that enough has been done. The Today widget: one review left, with the pig looking in over the corner.
Home screen widgets

A word on your home screen. A pig counting down.

The word widget shows one you do not have yet, and what it means — on the Home Screen or the Lock Screen. The small one counts what is left for the day, with the pig looking in over the corner to check. When the day is done she lies down in the meadow. Neither widget nags.
